Chapter 34: Bailey and Richard

Bailey woke up with a screaming hangover, a ring on her finger, and a crumpled rose petal stuck up her nose.

She sat up slowly and swung her legs over the side of the bed. The minor movement sent her head pounding. She tried to think, but it was like trying to swim through thick cobwebs. Her nose itched. Ah-choo! The rose petal flew out and landed on her lap. She eyed it curiously and reached for the box of tissues on her nightstand.

My nightstand?

“Good morning, darling,” Richard said cheerfully, as he pushed open the bedroom door with his back, carrying in a silver tray. Bailey saw two glasses of orange juice, some muffins, and a bud vase sporting a fresh white rose with pink tips on the petals.

“Fresh squeezed orange juice and blueberry muffins, your favorites. And wait ’til you see what I have planned for lunch.” He set the tray down on her grandmother’s cedar chest then planted a big kiss on her pounding forehead.

Cotton-mouth claimed her tongue. Bailey lifted a weak finger and pointed at the juice. Richard handed her the glass, and she gulped the OJ down.

“Richard, what happened? I’m so hung-over, my god, how did we get here? Do you have any aspirin on that tray?”

“Here, my love, take a nice whiff of your favorite flower, that’ll make you feel better. Then you can get back to writing your book. I’m going to stay right here and take care of everything else so you can concentrate on your work.”

He picked up the little porcelain vase and placed it in Bailey’s hands. The rose was so beautiful, so delicate. Bailey lifted it to her face and caught the scent.

Oh the scent! Richard was right. She did feel better. She sniffed again, taking a long, deep whiff. Her headache disappeared like magic.

“Richard, you’re right. Do you have any more of these? I’d love to have a whole bouquet.” She lay back on the bed, holding the flower to her nose with two hands. She rolled around on the sheets like a kitten with catnip. “This is marvelous. I feel sooo much better. Thank you, Richard.” Sitting back up she said, “My, you certainly look handsome today.”

Richard smiled. He could just hear the tinkle of Lillianna’s hand-cuffs in his ears.

“Well now,” he said, handing her a blueberry muffin. “Eat up. We need to fuel that great imagination of yours. Gotta get back to spinning those great adventures.”

Bailey tossed the muffin on the bed and held out her arms. “Come to me, Richard. I need you, my darling.”

Richard just stared.

She stretched her body out on the bed, propping up her head in one hand as she seductively rubbed her legs together and licked her lips. “Morning is your favorite time. C’mon, you always said my silly little books could wait to be written after my man had been satisfied.”
